Tyler Roberts’ favourite Leeds United moment will upset former club West Brom fans

Leeds United attacker Tyler Roberts has been speaking to the Leeds United official website this week regarding his time at the West Yorkshire club so far.

The Welshman was asked to discuss several topics, whilst on lockdown along with the rest of the Leeds United squad and nation. One question posed to him was his favourite moment so far as a Leeds United player.

The answer was Leeds United’s win against West Brom from March last year.

Roberts was one of the stars of that game, providing two assists as Leeds won 4-0 and took control of their eventually unsuccessful promotion chase.

It was also against his former team. Roberts joined Leeds from West Brom in 2018 for a reported (Sky Sports) £2.5 million fee.

But Roberts insisted his exit from West Brom was amicable and that was not the reason for his choice.

“West Brom at home last season.  Not just because it was my old team, because there were no wrongdoings or anything like that.

“I just think the atmosphere that was created by the fans, I’ve never experienced playing in something like that before, it was like a party inside of the stadium.  Because we scored so early, for the whole game it was bouncing, it was so sick.”

Nobody would begrudge Roberts some ill-feeling toward his former employer. He never truly got an opportunity to shine with the Baggies, playing just one game for the club and spending time on loan at Oxford United, Shrewsbury Town and Walsall prior to his Elland Road switch.

This season, the two teams have been the standout clubs in the Championship promotion battle and will be hoping that the global health crisis does not end up preventing them from the chance to play in the top-flight next season.

Roberts, though, would clearly enjoy it if both Leeds and his former club did return to the promised land this summer.
