Leeds United ace Tyler Roberts is considered the third-choice striker at Elland Road by most if the whole squad is fit, which is why the addition of another attacker could be bad news for him.
According to ClubCall, the Whites have checked on Argentine centre-forward Ezequiel Ponce with scouts attending his game at the weekend.
The 21-year-old is currently on loan at AEK Athens this season from Roma and current Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa previously signed him on loan during his time at Lille.
Ponce is a highly-rated youngster that is obtaining Champions League experience with AEK Athens and has scored five goals in 14 games across all competitions this season.
It’s unclear on if Leeds will press ahead with a move, but if he arrived it would add a new dimension to the attacking options.
Roberts would surely be pushed further down the pecking order and struggle for minutes.
Injuries to Roofe and Bamford opened the door for him this season to play in the first team, where overall he impressed considering his lack of experience.
The Welshman managed three goals in nine appearances across all competitions, but is now back to a sideline role following Roofe’s return.
Roberts, 19, showed enough in his game to prove he deserves regular action at a decent level and Bielsa could have a job on his hands keeping him on side.
