Leeds United were beaten 4-1 away to Crystal Palace on Saturday in the Premier League, but they will feel aggrieved about one major talking point from the game.
After Scott Dann’s headed opener for Palace, in-form striker Patrick Bamford thought he had equalised for Leeds when he produced a delicate chipped goal over the goalkeeper.
But VAR disallowed the goal, after it deemed the upper arm of the Leeds forward to be in an offside position as was he was pointing for a pass in behind the defence.
Palace made the most of their reprieve to take a two-goal lead and they eventually recorded a 4-1 victory, albeit Bamford did get on the scoresheet for his seventh goal of the season to highlight the kind of form he’s currently in.
Whites attacker Tyler Roberts called the decision “madness on his Instagram story, while teammate Mateusz Klich wrote “unlucky” on his Instagram story.

TBR’s View:
Marcelo Bielsa’s side didn’t deserve anything out of the game at Selhurst Park and ultimately they will know they weren’t at their best in the Palace defeat, but it’s hard not to look at the latest controversial decision that went against them.
It would’ve been a totally different contest had Bamford’s goal been allowed to make it 1-1 and it’s clear that there is major frustration in the Leeds camp, as well as from neutrals that are confused by the rule.
The VAR is not so much the issue on this occasion, rather the rule in place regarding what is or is not handball and it’s a talking point that will rumble on after this weekend.
