Everton’s under-23s took on PSV Eindhoven in the Premier League International Cup yesterday. Anthony Gordon, who appears to be on the cusp of a first-team opportunity, scored the opening goal to give Everton a 1-0 lead. However, David Unsworth’s side conceded a last-minute equaliser.
But there were still plenty of positives to take from the encounter. One of them has to be the continued emergence of youngster Tyler Onyango.

The 16-year-old first came to the attention of fans last season when he scored a double in Everton under-18s 5-4 win over Manchester United.
His rise since is impressive. A regular in the under-18s, this was his first foray into the under-23s and he played the full 90 minutes in an impressive showing.
The youngster operated in a number 10 role but is best suited to a marauding box-to-box role. Tall, strong, fast and fit there are definite comparisons with Manchester United’s World Cup winner Paul Pogba or even Lazio’s Serbian star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Capable of breaking up the play, finding a pass out of nowhere or producing a magic bit of skill the rangey midfielder should be on Everton fans’ radar as a potential future star.
