It has been a mixed transfer window for Chelsea, with the signing of N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi the only major acquisitions, while the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and even Arsenal have added to their squad heavily. Given the poor performance last season, it is even more concerning for Antonio Conte.
The Italian prioritised a move for a forward but suffered rejection from Real Madrid and Everton as the club chased Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku, and have been forced to admit defeat in their hunt for forwards, leaving a huge reliance on the questionable fitness of Diego Costa and Premier League new boy Batshuayi.
However, Conte has recognised the huge size of his squad and one of his priorities has been to slim it down as the Blues face their first season without European football in well over a decade. With John Terry retained on a new deal after a U-turn from the club, Conte has eyed defensive reinforcements, and these additions are the most likely to be added to the squad on deadline day.
