Everton midfielder Tom Davies could be set for a huge chance to shine against Watford on Saturday.

Morgan Schneiderlin picked up a red card in the club’s opening game against Crystal Palace, meaning he definitely won’t be available for selection.

Andre Gomes limped off against the Eagles after being accidentally stood on by Andros Townsend.

The Portugal international has had a scan (Liverpool Echo), and the club are sweating on his fitness ahead of the Hornets clash.

With new signing Fabian Delph injured, Jean-Philippe Gbamin is the only available holding midfielder to Marco Silva.

Should Gomes not recover in time, then it is surely Davies who will get the nod to replace him.

TBR’s view

Davies sees himself as an attacking midfielder, but would be the only real option to play alongside Gbamin.

It would be an early, unexpected chance to shine for Davies from the start, after he made just 19 appearances last term.

The young Englishman’s starting prospects took a bit of a hit due to the signing of Gomes, but the former Barcelona man’s possible absence against Watford will give the 21-year-old a chance to stake his claim.

It’s important that he does take any chance, especially with Schneiderlin absent.
