On Monday evening Liverpool the news came out that Raheem Sterling – the club’s young player of the season – was unhappy at the club and would reject any contract offered to him. Sterling even made claims to feeling “bullied” into signing a new contract with the club and hit out at the Reds for failing to protect him from bad headlines.
Sterling has repeatedly rejected any Liverpool approach to offer him a new contract throughout the season as the Merseyside club looked to tie him down with figures reported around £160k a week. The England international also added fuel to the fire a month ago when he claimed to be flattered by interest shown in him by Arsenal in an interview for BBC’s “Football Focus” he apparently conducted without the clubs permission.
Despite allegations of greed from fans and members of the football community, Sterling has claimed it is success and not money that lead him to believe his future is better off elsewhere. With 2 years left on his contract Liverpool have a tough decision to make whether to let him see his contract out or cash in while they can. One thing is for certain there will be no shortage of potential buyers for the European Golden Boy.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news:
Some claimed Sterling isn’t worth as much as he thinks:
Pray for @sterling31 surviving on 100k a week. Remember when he was 'tired' and LFC sent him to Jamaica for a holiday, my heart bleeds

A few reacted to claims that £900,000 a week wouldn’t tempt him to stay:
Raheem Sterling apparently thinks £900k a WEEK isn't enough…. He needs a fucking reality check! Stupid primadonna….

Sterling's agent says he wouldn't even sign a new contract at Liverpool worth £900k a week…

Sterling’s agent came under fire:
@sterling31 Your agent is a knob. You are ruining your career before it has even really began. Loyalty and dignity are important.

Cya Sterling take away your blistering pace you wouldn't have made your school team… Your agent will cost you a career ??

Some Liverpool fans wanted rid:
To the #LFC fans saying Sterling is overrated – you need to keep your mouth shut
We all know he is but if City find out there goes our £40m

While rival fans deliberated the signing of Sterling:
Raheem Sterling is overrated. Please #Arsenal sign Marco Reus rather.

Id of had Sterling at United before we signed Depay but nah not now. He's not better than Depay, Young, Mata, Di Maria or even Nani tbh.

Say what you like about Sterling I'd have him at Chelsea, Mourinho could make him a star!

I wouldn't be surprised if Sterling is a Chelsea player next season, I really hope he isn't though. Don't want him near this club.

City want to sign Sterling so his 16 kids could boost the Etihad attendance next season
