Twitter reacts to Inter Milan's £20m offer for Arsenal's Shkodran Mustafi
Arsene Wenger’s side head into game week three off the back of a shoddy showing against Stoke City. The Gunners offered little going forward and were hopeless defensively, rightfully losing 1-0.
Arsenal’s performance at the Brittania Stadium followed a shambolic defensive display, against Leicester City, in which they conceded three relatively straightforward goals.
Despite playing a back three, the Gunners were opened up far too easily and, if that is what Leicester can do, it is only a matter of time before one of the top seven turns up and embarrasses them.
After experiencing a difficult time defensively, it is a surprise to see one of their more impressive defenders linked with a move away from London. Shkodran Mustafi, the German centre-back who joined Arsenal last season, is reportedly on Inter Milan’s watchlist.
According to the Mirror, the Italian side have made an offer to sign Mustafi on loan, with a view to buy the player for £20 million next season. Inter are desperate to make a move happen and, despite it looking like a non-starter, the San Siro side are trying their hardest to complete the deal.
The reports certainly caused a reaction on social media. Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news:
These Arsenal fans were shocked at the news…
What are the quotes re Mustafi? Why is this even a thing?
— Roberto Holdini (@ArsenalVenter) August 24, 2017
Selling Mustafi would stink of club trying to recoup money in advance of those leaving on a free next season
— Mark #kroenkeout (@Gooner_GAWA) August 24, 2017
Sell Mustafi for 25 million and it's job done for the Stan/Wenger business model of zero net spend. #CatalystForFuckAll

Wenger refuses to deny the Mustafi rumours. Has this guy lost his mind?

Why are we even considering selling Mustafi??
— meg (@lavo_afc) August 24, 2017
There are still a few shocks left in these last 7 days because Wenger says there will be movement both ways. Mustafi will be a big one
— AYOOLA (@ayaj_) August 24, 2017
Actually looks like we could sell Mustafi, what the fuck is that about?
— Rob Hagz (@Haggettino) August 24, 2017
Yet, these Arsenal fans were content in letting the German go, provided they got a new signing in return…
I hate Mustafi but if we're not bringing in someone like Manolas then what's the point in selling
— James (@jaaamesp) August 24, 2017
If we replaced mustafi, I wouldn't be too bothered assuming he's replaced with quality.

Interesting that Wenger did not deny the possibility of Mustafi potentially leaving. If it happened, would expect a marquee centre-half.
