Ross Barkley is back in the England squad after an impressive start to the new season at Chelsea. It represents quite a turnaround for the player. Labeled a flop early into his Chelsea career as he battled a hamstring problem he looks a different player this season.
Leaner, smarter and more confident, Barkley has earned his England recall. It has, however, come at the detriment of one of England’s World Cup stars. Ruben Loftus-Cheek had an excellent loan spell at Crystal Palace last season. However, he decided to fight for first-team football at Stamford Bridge this term and it has proved to be a mistake.

It has led to speculation he will seek an exit in January, after missing out on the most recent England squad.
One team that is bound to be linked again will be Everton. In the summer, as reported by The Mirror, Everton wanted to bring the midfield maestro to Goodison Park.
With the centre of midfield still looking like an area for improvement at Everton, Loftus-Cheek would be a fantastic recruitment option.
It would certainly come with a twisted sense of irony. Barkley’s £15 million exit to Chelsea was mired in controversy and many Everton fans have not quite forgiven him for the way in which he departed his boyhood club.
But if Loftus-Cheek ended up at Goodison Park as a result, it would certainly soften the blow.
