Turkish club Trabzonspor are keen on taking Everton defender Matthew Pennington on loan for 2019/20, according to Turkish outlet Star, via Sport Witness.
They report that talks have already started over taking the 24-year-old to Turkey after an impressive loan spell with Ipswich Town last season, where he was outstanding despite the club’s eventual relegation.
The report says that Trabzonspor’s scouting team have been impressed by what they’ve seen of Pennington and think getting him in would represent great business.
Pennington has been unable to nail down a regular spot in Everton’s plans in recent years, but the Toffees look a little short at centre half as it stands, so perhaps he could be in line to help out.
Pennington is reaching the age where he would be hoping to break into the first team squad or he will be forced to look for first team action elsewhere.
The situation at Everton right now could create a fantastic opportunity for him, provided he can get back to his best form following the reported (BBC) surgery on the ankle ligament injury which cut short his Ipswich loan in April.
Marco Silva could do with a reliable backup, especially if he can’t get Kurt Zouma back through the door on a permanent basis.
