‘Trust me’…Perry Groves says Arsenal are nowhere near as good without £45m player

Arsenal top the Premier League after this weekend and pundit Perry Groves has heaped praise on star striker, Gabriel Jesus.

Jesus didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet once again but played a key role in helping the Gunners to another massive three points.

Arsenal are now clear of City and Liverpool in the title chase and Mikel Arteta will be delighted with what he’s seeing.

Of course, he’d like for Jesus to get more goals as well but according to Perry Groves, the Brazilian brings so much more to the table for Arsenal.

Pundit seriously impressed with Gabriel Jesus

Speaking on the TalkSPORT All Access podcast, Groves was full of praise for the £45m signing.

“Gabriel Jesus has taken a bit of criticism in the last week or so because he actually said himself, I’m not a goal scorer. Maybe you shouldn’t say that as a centre-forward but he was being perfectly honest because he’s a one in three-and-a-half, one in four [striker],” Groves said.

“Without him, trust me, Bukayo Saka isn’t as effective, Martinelli isn’t effective because they played three centre-halves Wolves. Jesus’s movement, he comes deep, he engages them and if you look at the two goals, he was the pass before the assist. Where he’s got a great layout for Zinchenko where he shows, he flicks one around the corner into Tomiyasu for Saka’s goal. So, he brings more and he brings the best out of those players, and those players flourish.”

Jesus so crucial

The argument against Jesus due to his goal scoring record will always be there and it’s likely never going to go away unless he suddenly turns into Ian Wright.

But beyond that, Jesus is just so important for this Arsenal team. It’s no coincidence they have become title challengers since he signed for £45m from Man City.

Arsenal look a completely different team when Jesus plays and it’s so obvious why he is the main man.

Yes, more goals would be handy. But as Groves says here, everything else in his game is massively impressive.
