Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after hearing a snippet from Edu’s interview with Sky Sports and Geoff Shreeves.

What’s the story?

Well, Arsenal’s Technical Director sat down with Shreeves to discuss the problems at the Emirates Stadium, and also the transfer window.

More specifically, Edu discussed Arsenal’s targets for the season – or lack of targets, we should say – and left supporters furious with his comments.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Brazilian said: “I don’t want to go for numbers. Top four, top six, top eight, top ten. I’m really looking forward to seeing this team play together.”

Now, this is a bit odd, and we don’t really believe Edu.

It would be bizarre for a Technical Director not to have ambitions of where he wants his side to finish.

The only logical explanation we can think of is that Edu is merely trying to manage expectations, and is keen to not make a rod for his own back by setting targets.

If he did go public with his targets, and Arsenal failed to meet them, it’ll be used as a stick to beat him with once the season is over.

Should Arsenal keep Edu?

It’s a well known fact that Edu is Arsenal’s first ever Technical Director.

However, is he the best option out there?

He’s only ever fulfilled the same role at club level for Corinthians, which doesn’t quite come with the pressure of working at Arsenal – with all due respect.

When the likes of Ralf Rangnick and Marc Overmars are out there, Edu really does have to perform.

The Express believe those above Edu at Arsenal are unhappy with him, and are considering the aforementioned duo as replacements.

Ex-Chelsea Director Michael Emenalo is another option.

If Edu’s signings fail to perform once again this season, that will surely be it for the South American.

He’s already had too many failures in the market, despite not being in the role for that long.

Let’s see what the Arsenal fans on Twitter have been saying about his lack of aspiration…
