Johan Djourou has lauded Granit Xhaka on Instagram following Arsenal’s draw with Fulham, labelling the Gunners star a ‘true leader’.
It proved to be a frustrating day for Mikel Arteta’s side. There was a big sigh of relief when Eddie Nketiah scored a stoppage-time equaliser against relegation-threatened Fulham.
A number of players struggled to step up on Sunday. That may have been down to their outstanding performance on Thursday. But it does appear that Arsenal’s players are unwilling to use that as an excuse.
Xhaka was amongst those to quickly front up on social media in the wake of the draw.
The Swiss did not have the best afternoon. However, he surely deserves some credit after featuring in the left-back role once again.
And Djourou made sure to praise the midfielder on social media in response to Xhaka’s post…

Xhaka definitely showed leadership once again on Sunday. He was involved in a nasty clash with Bobby Decordova-Reid during the second-half.
The 28-year-old was clearly in agony. And Arteta would have been forgiven for thinking that he would need to replace Xhaka.
However, within moments, Xhaka was limping back on and was almost immediately back in possession.
That moment arguably highlighted how Xhaka never shies away from the battle. He has certainly made mistakes. But he is clearly a player Arteta knows he can use in an unfamiliar role and get a reasonable performance from.
