Troy Deeney surprised by his own prediction for Liverpool vs Aston Villa on Saturday

Liverpool face Aston Villa on Saturday in what is another serious test for Arne Slot’s side.

Challenges have been coming thick and fast for the Reds as of late as they’ve had to face the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Brighton in recent weeks.

Liverpool have come through this run relatively unscathed, only dropping points against Arsenal.

The Reds now have another difficult test this weekend as they face off against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

Villa have been brilliant over the past 18 months or so, and they certainly have enough ability in their squad to beat the Reds.

Chris Sutton believes Liverpool will beat Villa, but Troy Deeney has shared a different verdict when speaking on his TikTok page.

Troy Deeney predicts Liverpool vs Aston Villa

Deeney shared his verdict on how this one will go.

The pundit made a joke at the expense of Tyrone Mings after his mistake in midweek, but he did surprise himself, stating that, weirdly, he expects Villa to get something here.

“We’re hoping that Tyrone Mings picks the ball up again and decides he’s a basketball player and not a footballer,” Deeney said.

“We had some fun with that, I am going to go, weirdly, against Liverpool here, just because Villa are awkward away from home. They’re getting players back. They’re getting fit. I don’t think Liverpool were great in their last two games. I’m saying a draw you know. I’m going to say 1-1.”

Aston Villa’s record vs Liverpool

Deeney thinks that Villa will get something against Liverpool this weekend, and that is a rather bold prediction.

Indeed, Liverpool have barely dropped a point this season, and their record against Villa in recent years has been stellar.

Liverpool 2-0 Aston Villa5 July 2020
Aston Villa 7-2 Liverpool4 October 2020

Liverpool 3-0 Aston Villa3 September 2023
Aston Villa 3-3 Liverpool13 May 2023

Villa have only won one of their last 10 games against Liverpool in that famous 7-2 victory during lockdown.

Meanwhile, Villa haven’t won at Anfield since 2014, so it’s fair to say that Emery’s side come into this game as underdogs.

Deeney reckons the Villans will get something here, but the Midlands club do face an uphill battle if they want to win this match.

Virgil van Dijk has noted just how talented Ollie Watkins is, and that battle will be key to the outcome of this game.
