Troy Deeney suggests Arsenal actually released two midfielders who were better than Frank Lampard

Troy Deeney has been ranking some of the very best midfielders in Premier League history.

The former Watford striker took part of a TikTok challenge where he had to rank some of the best midfield players to ever play in the English top-flight, and he’s made an interesting claim about two players Arsenal let go.

Indeed, both Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla made Deeney’s top 10, and he ranked them at number six and number five.

Deeney put Ozil and Cazorla quite high in his rankings ahead of the likes of Frank Lampard and David Silva.

The pundit shared his verdict on these two players and ranked them highly.

“Santi Cazorla, both footed, nice, left footed right footed, it didn’t matter,” Deeney said.

“Mesut Ozil, ooh, that’s a tough one, I’m going to go there (number five),” Deeney said.

Incredible players

Ozil and Cazorla are undoubtedly two of the most talented midfield players we’ve ever seen in the Premier League.

These two were an utter joy to watch during their time at Arsenal, but, sadly, due to a combination of injury problems and supposed attitude issues, their respective times at the club were cut short as they were both released on free transfers.

Ozil and Cazorla weren’t the most physically incredible midfield pairing you’re likely to ever see, but in terms of technical ability, there really aren’t many other midfield duos in this history of this league that come close to these two.

Both Ozil and Cazorla had all of the technical ability in the world, and while this midfield pairing was a bit soft as the Premier League evolved to be more and more physical, when it all clicked, there wasn’t a more entertaining duo in the Premier League.
