Troy Deeney says he’s ‘seriously worried’ about one player at Chelsea

Chelsea head into this season riding the crest of a wave.

Indeed, the Blues became world champions over the summer, and they will be looking to back up that success with some domestic glory too.

Chelsea were tipped as title contenders last season, but they fell away in the second-half of the season.

However, after adding some quality this summer, the Blues are ready to go again and potentially challenge at the top.

Speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Troy Deeney has been discussing Chelsea’s chances this season, and he says there’s one player he’s particularly worried about.

Troy Deeney worried about Robert Sanchez

Deeney expressed his concern about Robert Sanchez in goal for Chelsea.

The pundit says he has a serious concern about the Spaniard, claiming that the goalkeeper has shown on numerous occasions that he will let Chelsea down in big moments.

“I’m still seriously worried about Sanchez. I know he had a wonderful club World Cup. But again, if you see the goal against AC Milan, his positioning is all over the place,” Deeney said.

“That’s a near post shot. I think you should save it. I think there’s a real weird place with Sanchez because he’s showing you what you can do.

“And we’ve seen over the course of his body of work that he’s going to let you down in big moments.”

Premier League winning goalkeepers are all top class

Deeney says he has a concern about Sanchez, and he’s absolutely right to be worried.

Sanchez was heavily criticised last season.

If there’s one thing history shows us it’s that you need a top class goalkeeper to win the Premier League.

The last 10 champions of England have all had a sturdy, reliable goalie between the sticks.

Sanchez just isn’t in this calibre, and it’s a historical trend that you can track all the way back to Petr Cech, Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar.

Chelsea need a goalkeeping upgrade if they’re going to become Premier League champions.
