Troy Deeney says £6m midfielder Tottenham sold was so good it was ‘a joke’

Tottenham have let a number of talented players go over the years.

From Harry Kane to Kyle Walker, Spurs have had to sell a number of world-class players in recent years.

Aside from the world-class stars Spurs have had to let go, Tottenham have also had to sell a few underrated stars as well.

One such player is Etienne Capoue. The French midfielder has proven at Villarreal just how brilliant he is, while he was also fantastic for Watford for a short period.

Speaking on his TikTok page, Troy Deeney has been reviewing some old footage of Capoue, and he stated that the former Spurs star is one of the best players he’s ever played with, claiming that his talent was a joke

Deeney spoke about the £6m midfielder.

“Then Caps slapped that as well. One hell of a finish, he’s still one of the best players I’ve ever played with, he was a joke. He plays for Villarreal now, he’s won the Europa League, he’s French, he was so sick,” Deeney said.

Right place, wrong time

Capoue is a very talented player, but, frustratingly, he was at Tottenham at the wrong time.

Simply put, there was too much competition in the Tottenham midfield around this time, and that meant that Capoue was limited to sporadic appearances that didn’t exactly allow him to showcase his abilities.

Luckily, Capoue didn’t spend too much time on the Tottenham bench, and he’s since found his feet in Spain with Villarreal where he continues to thrive today.

Capoue could’ve been a fantastic player for Spurs if he was in north London in the right era, but sadly, things just didn’t line up correctly for Capoue to showcase his abilities during his time at Spurs.

As Deeney says, the 35-year-old is a very talented player.
