Trippier to Newcastle: Trevor Sinclair's angry reaction after TalkSPORT pundit's claim
Newcastle United are on the verge of signing England international Kieran Trippier.
The 31-year-old has arrived in the North East to undergo a medical with the Magpies.
Newcastle have reportedly agreed a £12million fee with Atletico Madrid for Trippier’s services.
According to Sky Sports, he’ll sign a two-and-a-half-year contract with the option of a further year.
Trippier is set to become the first Newcastle signing of the Saudi PIF / PCP Capital Partners era.
The former Tottenham man was reportedly keen on returning to England for family reasons.
His imminent move has led to much discussion and debate amongst fans and pundits.
On talkSPORT, Trevor Sinclair and Simon Jordan had a heated exchange over Trippier’s move.
“He’s going there for one reason and one reason only,” said Jordan.
“Because the economic package suits him at this stage of his career. End of discussion.”
Sinclair retorted: “So why isn’t he going to China? Shut up, Simon, you’re talking rubbish. He’d go to China.”
Jordan responded: “Because the Chinese (Super League) have capped the wages.
“He wouldn’t be getting anywhere near what he’s getting at Newcastle. That’s why they’re not going to China any more.
“Trev, go do your research.”
Sinclair replied: “I’m not saying it’s just for money. I’m saying it’s for glory as well…
“Newcastle is a great football club, it’s on its way back, it’s got great backers, it’s a fantastic project.
“And if you can manage to keep it in the Premier League this year there’s a lot of glory that goes with that.”
