Trevor Sinclair urges Joe Willock to return to Arsenal after Newcastle spell

Talksport pundit and former England midfielder, Trevor Sinclair, has told Joe Willock to get back to Arsenal after his impressive spell in Newcastle.

The Gunners youngster has been brilliant since arriving on loan in January. His five goals have been crucial in Newcastle staving off relegation once more and Steve Bruce is said to be desperate to keep him at St James’ Park.

However, Willock’s form has coincided with Arsenal dipping once again. The Gunners have fallen down the PL table while they also crashed out of the Europa League last week at the hands of Villarreal.

And Sinclair, speaking to Talksport today, believes Willock needs to get back to North London and seize his chance.

“If I was him, I would want to get back to Arsenal. Because from what I have seen from Arsenal’s midfield, they haven’t been anywhere near as good or as productive as what I have seen from Joe Willock,” Sinclair said.

“His athleticism, his desire to affect the game and he is a box-to-box player playing with freedom and playing like he is wanting to prove someone wrong. If you ask any player who has been released out on loan that is the first thing you go for. Prove people who have let you go wrong. He has done that over the last three months and he has been exceptional for Newcastle.”

Willock faces a tough decision in the summer over whether to go back. Arsenal are expected to try and sell a few players, and Willock is one who they value around £20m.

TBR View: Willock good enough for Arsenal but it depends on Arteta

Mikel Arteta clearly saw something in Willock but not enough to give him too much of a chance. His loan was a smart move, and it has paid off handsomely.

However, he’s clearly not going to be massively in favour and if he can be as good for Newcastle as he has been here on a permanent basis, then he might fancy the move.

It’s a big summer for Willock, who will want first-team football after doing so well.
