Trevor Sinclair has teased Tottenham Hotspur on Twitter after the north Londoners were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two side Colchester United on Tuesday evening on penalties
Mauricio Pochettino made 10 changes to the side that were beaten 2-1 by Leicester City on the weekend, with only Paulo Gazzaniga keeping his place between the sticks. Troy Parrott and Japhet Tanganga made their debuts for the club.
Colchester, who were the lowest ranked team still in the competition, set out to frustrate Spurs and they did exactly that. Even Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Erik Lamela coming off the bench could not prevent a penalty shootout.
Eriksen and Lucas Moura missed in the shootout, allowing Colchester to beat the Champions League finalists and progress to the fourth round of the competition. Ex- West Ham star Sinclair teased Spurs on Twitter.
TBR’s view – What is going on at Tottenham?
Spurs have won just two of eight league and cup fixtures this season, managing only two Premier League wins out of six, drawing against Olympiacos in the Champions League and then Tuesday night’s defeat to Colchester.
Pochettino has reiterated that there is a lack of squad harmony among his group of players, with Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld in the final months of their contracts. But some blame has to be placed on Pochettino.
His constant rotation of his squad is removing any chance of consistency, and Spurs have lost possibly their best chance of silverware this season because of it.
