Trevor Sinclair says Manchester City legend David Silva was the best midfielder going for 10 years
Former England and Manchester City man, Trevor Sinclair, has lavished praise on former midfielder David Silva, in an interview for Talksport.
Sinclair, who is now a regular on the radio station, was talking about the greatest Manchester City players. Specifically, he was speaking about the last decade or so, which has seen City dominate domestically.
During that time, City have been blessed with huge players such as Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure, and Sergio Aguero. But Sinclair believes that despite all those names, it is David Silva who should be most appreciated.
“Aguero is up there, for sure. But for me, I’m a huge David Silva lover. He was greatly underappreciated for so long,” Sinclair said.
“But City fans knew what he brought to that team. He was a genius. It’s no coincidence he’s gone to Sociedad and they’re now playing some tremendous football. I think he was the best midfielder in the country for around ten years.”
Silva arrived at the club back in 2010 when then-manager, Roberto Mancini, paid what looked like a hefty £30m for the Spaniard.
However, the ex-Valencia ace more than proved his worth. He won four PL titles, five League Cups, and two FA Cups. He’s also won the World Cup with Spain, and the European Championship.
TBR View: Silva one of the all-time Premier League greats, there is no doubt
David Silva is probably one of those names you don’t think about when naming your very best PL team ever. But if you think harder, then he has to be in the squad at least.
Trophy after trophy and key under numerous managers, Silva was exceptional. He was vital for Pep Guardiola, too, helping others along as they adapated to the Spanish manager’s ways.
Silva, as Sinclair says, is a true Manchester City great.
