Trevor Sinclair has ordered Celtic to complete the free agent signing of goalkeeper Joe Hart, amid reported interest from the Scottish champions following the former England international’s release from Burnley.
Hart, 33, is officially a free agent after Burnley stated they would not be renewing the 75-time England international’s contract at Turf Moor. He is without a club after his contract ended on June 30.
The Record reported over the weekend that talks had been held between Celtic and Hart, and that the Hoops would be opening a second round of discussions over a move to Parkhead this week.
The new interest in Hart comes after The Sun claimed Celtic are unlikely to re-sign Forster due to his £5million asking price and £90,000-a-week wages. Sinclair, a Celtic fan, ordered the Hoops to sign Hart on a free.
TBR’s view – Hart still an excellent goalkeeper
But the England ace has had some bad luck. Ostracised by Pep Guardiola, his career and seemingly his confidence has dwindled. A mediocre loan spell at Torino was followed by a poor one at West Ham.
Just 24 appearances in two seasons at Burnley has followed, with Nick Pope proving to be one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers this term. Hart needs stability, a home where he can get his confidence back.
