Former Manchester City midfielder, Trevor Sinclair, has said that Brendan Rodgers could be a natural successor to Pep Guardiola at The Etihad.

Rodgers is enjoying a fine season with Leicester, building on a good campaign last term. The Foxes are firmly in contention for a top four finish, something which would be a fine achievement for Rodgers.

The ex-Celtic boss is no stranger to success from his time in Scotland. And speaking on TalkSport earlier today, Sinclair says he thinks Rodgers could take any job in the Premier League, including the one at City if Pep leaves.

“I think anyone who needs a manager would be looking at Brendan. The job he’s done at Celtic, and now the job at Leicester. I’ve said it for years, he’s the most similar manager to Pep Guardiola. I think he’s an absolute genius,” Sinclair said.

“Leicester a big club but I do think if one of the big boys came in, he’d go a good job. I think City, if Pep decided he needed a rest, I think City would look at him.”

Let’s be right, Rodgers didn’t do a bad job with Liverpool. He came agonisingly close to doing what Jurgen Klopp has finally managed.

Rodgers is a coach who seems to improve himself year on year. Leicester are great to watch, and they’ve also seen players come in, develop, and improve further.

Sinclair makes a great point here. If Manchester City did need someone to replace Pep, then Rodgers should be right up the list.
