Trent Alexander-Arnold raves over Liverpool team-mate Joe Gomez’s recent form

Alexander-Arnold hailed his club and international team-mate.

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has lavished praise on club and international team-mate Joe Gomez, speaking to their official website.

The Reds have kept five Premier League clean sheets in a row and Alexander-Arnold was keen to praise the impact of the 22-year-old.

He said: “Joe coming in and doing an outstanding job, proving we’ve got four world-class centre-halves. Joe coming in for us has been massive and he’s shown the manager that he’s ready to play whenever. He’s done an unbelievable job. Solid as anything. Always there on the cover, getting blocks in, his last-ditch tackles are unbelievable.

“The pace and the power that he has is almost like an attacker. He can go toe-for-toe with any attacker and we’d all be confident that he could be faster than them, stronger than them. That’s massive in terms of the confidence that he gives us as a back four and the players in front. It’s a great partnership between him and Virg [van Dijk].”

TBR’s View – Gomez nailed on for Euro 2020 starting spot if he stays fit

Gomez is playing the best football of any English centre half right now. Harry Maguire has played so often for England that it has felt like a case of the Manchester United man and another.

But right now, Gomez is the nailed-on pick in the side, with the United man playing so poorly he’d be lucky to get in alongside the Reds man.

John Stones and Tyrone Mings look the favourites to complete the party of centre halves during the summer but both have had injuries of late. England’s defence has looked shaky at times, but Gomez should be guaranteed a summer starting spot if he stays fit and on this form.
