There has been plenty of talk recently regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s best potential position. The Liverpool right-back has been in outstanding form for the Champions elect and it has led to some suggestions that he may be better utilised as a midfield player.
This week, however, the Liverpool and England star has been discussing how he initially moved to right-back in the first place.

Alexander-Arnold was initially playing in a midfield role as he came up through the Liverpool youth system. However, as the 21-year-old told the BBC this week, it was decided by two key figures at Liverpool that a move to right-back was in the player’s best interests.
“It was me, Neil Critchley and Alex Inglethorpe. Critch was my under-18 manager and Alex was head of the academy. I wanted to get into the first team as soon as possible, and we decided that was the most straightforward route.”
TBR’s View
It was certainly a decision that appears to have worked out for the Liverpool and England star.
Alexander-Arnold is now one of the best right-backs in world football and whilst there is plenty of talk regarding a move into midfield, especially regarding his England future, hopefully, he will remain in his current position.
The extra dimension Alexander-Arnold offers whilst performing the normal duties of a right-back is what makes him such a precocious talent. Hopefully, that won’t be lost on Gareth Southgate.
