'Tremendous': Tottenham reportedly want a 20-year-old who's been likened to Lewandowski
Yesterday, we covered news from 90min which revealed that Tottenham are interested in a move for Schalke 04 striker Matthew Hoppe.
The 20-year-old is available for just £4m after the German side suffered relegation from the Bundesliga last season.
Along with Spurs, Nuno Espírito Santo’s former employers Wolves are also keen on Hoppe.
Newcastle and Southampton are interested too.
Now, whoever lands the American will be getting a serious prospect.
Robert Lewandowski 2.0?
Although conceding that he still has a long way to go to match the Bayern Munich frontman’s achievements, the Bundesliga actually compared Hoppe to Robert Lewandowski.
The Bundesliga believe Hoppe has the raw attributes to one day reach the Pole’s level.
They mention Hoppe’s thin, tall and graceful – but also strong – stature, and his movement in front of goal as comparable traits to Lewandowski.
However, it goes without saying he still has a long, long way to go.
What’s been said about Matthew Hoppe?
Well, Christian Gross – who managed Hoppe at Schalke 04 – had many kind things to say about the 20-year-old.
The Bundesliga quote him as saying: “He’s a boy who’s unbelievably ambitious, has tremendous commitment and only thinks about Schalke. He wants to do whatever it takes to get us out of this situation. He really is a model professional.”
Even if Tottenham signed him and loaned him out immediately, it has to be done.
£4m for a prospect like Hoppe is a fantastic opportunity, that’s too good to turn down.
