In Thursday’s edition of The Boot Room transfer round-up, the Mirror Sport, are reporting a potential deal between Liverpool and Malaga for the services of 25-year-old midfielder Ignacio Camacho – a player many Premier League fans may know very little about. The Spain under-21 international, who has also attracted the interest of Tottenham, is said to have a £10 million buy-out clause in his contract. Naturally, this is proving an attractive price for the Anfield giants.
The arrival of Camacho would provide Reds manager Jurgen Klopp with a different proposition to his current first-team central midfield options, James Milner and captain Jordan Henderson, with the ex-Atletico Madrid man a specialist defensive midfielder. Having averaged 3.5 interceptions and 3.3 successful tackles in his 16 league appearances this season, the Spaniard also provides a more dynamic option over the ageing Lucas Leiva. For £10 million, he could prove an absolute steal.
Meanwhile, the Mirror Sport also suggest that Leicester could sell one of Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante come the end of a remarkable 2015/16 campaign. It is suggested that even with the golden carrot of Champions League football, Claudio Ranieri will be powerless in convincing all of his key potential title-winners to remain at the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes duo have been in unbelievable form throughout the current campaign, with each playing a major role in the club’s rise to the summit of the Premier League table. Mahrez, the top flight’s leading midfielder scorer with 16 goals, has attracted interest from Manchester United, Tottenham and Spain’s European champions Barcelona, while Kante, who has made more tackles (100) than any other player in the division, is a target for for Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Italian champions Juventus.
Few would expect either midfielder to actively seek a move away from Leicester, but a move to the Nou Camp or the Juventus Stadium could prove extremely difficult to turn down once the transfer window re-opens – especially if this brings the opportunity to mount a genuine challenge for the Europe’s most coveted prize. Regardless, for now Leicester fans should continue to soak up the excitement of the incredible season they are experiencing, and leave concerns over transfer speculation for a later date.
What do you make of today’s transfer round-up? Would Ignacio Camacho be an upgrade to Liverpool’s current defensive-midfield options? Will Riyad Mahrez or N’Golo Kante be tempted into a move away from Leicester this summer? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
