The arrival of Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge could spark into action a very exciting summer for Chelsea fans, particularly if latest reports from the Daily Mail are to be believed. According to latest speculation, the Italian head coach is set to target Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal, in an early attempt to restore his new club to title-winning ways.

Chelsea have endured a miserable season by their standards, and one of the prevailing factors behind the club’s lackluster form has been a lack of bite in the central midfield area. Vidal, previously of Italian champions Juventus, is a player renowned for his ability in the centre of the park. His arrival would certainly rattle a few cages at Stamford Bridge *ahem* Nemanja Matic.

With the departure of Pep Guardiola – the man who initially brought the Chilean international to the Allianz Arena – imminent, this news may not be as far-fetched as it first seems. The Mail‘s report suggests that Vidal has privately and publicly indicated that he wants to work under Conte again, having excelled under his leadership at Juventus . With changes afoot in Munich, the 28-year-old could see the summer window as a perfect opportunity to make the switch to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, according to German news outlet Bild, Bayern Munich are lining up a midfield signing of their own, with Tottenham youngster Eric Dier seen as the perfect replacement for the ageing Xabi Alonso.

The 22-year-old has been a key figure for both club and country throughout the current campaign – with his recent performance in England’s 3-2 victory over Germany undoubtedly catching the eye – and the Bundesliga outfit chiefs are touting him as an ideal successor for their 34-year-old midfield talisman.

Mauricio Pochettino will do his up-most to prevent the sale of Dier this summer and, consequently, this move carries a very low risk for Tottenham fans. The former Sporting Lisbon defender, who has started all but one game for the Lilywhites this term, has a fantastic career ahead of him and even in its early stages there remains the slight chance that he and his teammates will be crowned Premier League champions come the end of the season.

With a talented group of young, like-minded players around him, Dier will be well aware that White Hart Lane is the best place to be playing his football at this present moment in time.

What do you make of today’s transfer round-up? Would Arturo Vidal be an upgrade on Chelsea’s current midfield options? What are the Chilean international’s chances of moving to the Bridge?
