Crystal Palace ace once labelled 'the difference' calls on Jose Mourinho to sign him for AS Roma
Crystal Palace attacker Andros Townsend, who is out of contract soon, jokingly called on Jose Mourinho to sign him for AS Roma.
Speaking on talkSPORT, the soon-to-be free agent claimed his all-round personality was a reason for the Portuguese coach to sign him.
Townsend said: “Listen, Jose, you know I’m in the studio and you don’t live far from here and I’m happy to try anything. You know where to contact me.”
Townsend will be out of contract with the Eagles at the end of this month. He is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract.
When questioned about what was happening with his current situation, the England international revealed he has offers from various clubs.
TBR View: Townsend contract situation a sorry story for Crystal Palace
The contract situation surrounding Townsend is a sorry situation for both the player and Crystal Palace.
His time in South London has been littered with inconsistencies and a parting of ways is probably a smart decision.
Townsend has turned out for the club over 180 times across all competitions, scoring a meagre 16 goals.
It’s a sorry story for a high-flying winger who used to rule the roost at Tottenham Hotspur.
At one point during the 29-year-old’s career, he was a first-choice starter for both Spurs and England. However, he now finds himself on his way out of Palace.
Despite his inconsistencies, his exit isn’t welcome news for the south Londoners. Their squad was paper-thin last campaign with just six players in attack.
The long-term injury to Eberechi Eze and impending exit of Townsend only further hampers the first-team.
Townsend’s story is sorry one for both the player and his soon-to-be former club. From England star to free agent, his fall from grace is quite spectacular.
