‘Touch and go’: David Moyes now says 28-year-old West Ham man could play vs Leicester today
Their defeat to Blackburn Rovers on penalties in midweek was the latest poor result for the Hammers.
A win for West Ham today could move them as high as 11th in the table.
However, defeat and if results go their way the Hammers will go into the World Cup break in the relegation zone.
This is in stark contrast to the last two campaigns under Moyes, which have seen his side return to European football.
They look very at home in the Europa Conference League, maintaining a 100% record throughout the group stages.
However, they’ve struggled domestically as many teams do when involved in European competition.
Moyes may be able to call on defender Emerson Palmieri against Leicester today.
The Hammers manager said he was ‘touch and go’ to be involved after breaking his nose in midweek.
Emerson could play against Leicester – Moyes
Speaking ahead of the match, Moyes gave an update on the Italian full-back: “Emerson is touch and go because he broke his nose in midweek.
“He’s had it reset. I’m not sure how Emerson is going to be.
“We’ve got a couple of other knocks and niggles which I’m sure all teams have.”
Emerson would have been hoping his move across London in the summer from Chelsea would be a fresh start.
He’s been a regular in the Conference League for West Ham, and has already recorded his first goal for the club.
However, the Italian international hasn’t made as much of an impact in the Premier League.
He’s been an unused substitute in West Ham’s last four matches, with Aaron Cresswell maintaining his role at Moyes’ first-choice left-back.
Emerson could be available to play against Leicester today, but would likely only be an option off the bench.
He could be joined on the bench by Michail Antonio, after Callum Wilson joked that he now knows why Moyes doesn’t start him.
