Tottenham’s Manchester City victory hopes may hinge on Eriksen outshining De Bruyne

Tottenham Hotspur take on Manchester City at Wembley on Monday evening.

Spurs will be keen to put the disappointments of their Champions League outing against PSV Eindhoven behind them with a win against the Premier League champions.

City go into the game top of the pile, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men are only two points further back after an impressive start despite no summer signings.

It promises to be a fantastic game with talent everywhere one looks, but Spurs will be hoping for a huge performance from Christian Eriksen, who impressed against PSV on his return from injury.

The Danish playmaker hasn’t started in the Premier League for a month after nursing an abdominal injury, but should be recalled for the crunch clash.

Eriksen must outshine De Bruyne

If Tottenham are to win this game, then Eriksen needs a big performance.

He’s yet to have one in the league so far this season.

On the opposite side, Kevin De Bruyne – a £55 million signing from Wolfsburg in 2015 – has also just returned to action for the Citizens and will be keen to make his mark in the capital.

Eriksen simply must outshine his fellow midfielder on the night.

When Eriksen is on song, Spurs are an absolute animal. He is as good as anyone in the league on his day, and must influence the game more than the Belgian, which will not be easy.

Both players should be handed starts, and it promises to be one of the most watchable battles of the season.
