After a bright start to his Tottenham Hotspur spell, Timo Werner is potentially facing a fight to hold onto his spot in Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Timo Werner has looked bright since joining Spurs, providing a couple of assists. However, he is yet to get off the mark himself. And Werner has missed a couple of good chances in his first handful of appearances.
But with South Korea suffering a surprise defeat at the Asian Cup, Tottenham should soon have Heung-min Son back in the ranks for the final part of the season. And Werner is potentially the obvious candidate to drop out of the starting line-up.
Tottenham interest in Nico Williams may not be good news for Timo Werner
Richarlison has been in outstanding form of late. With that, Son is surely most likely to move out to the left, with James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski alongside him behind the striker.

And that may not be ideal for Werner given that Tottenham are already being linked with a couple of attacking players for the summer transfer window.
One of those names Tottenham want is Nico Williams, who has scored five goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions this season. Williams has predominantly played on the left.
The 21-year-old is an ‘incredible‘ talent, and his contract includes a £43 million release clause. That opens the door for a potential bargain if the Spain international goes on to realise his full potential.
The pressure is already on January signing
If they bring Nico Williams in, it is hard to see Tottenham pushing to sign Werner permanently.
The move to sign Werner on loan seemed to make a lot of sense. He had struggled in the Premier League previously. And he did not exactly prove Chelsea wrong back at RB Leipzig.
But a loan with a £15 million option to buy was a low-risk move for Spurs. In fact, the biggest problem arguably arises if he scores a reasonable, but unspectacular number of goals while on loan. That would leave Tottenham with a tricky decision to make.
Now however, he is surely in real danger of dropping out of the team. And if Williams continues to impress over the rest of the season, there is surely going to be less of an appetite to make Werner’s move permanent.
