Tottenham Hotspur were one of the more active sides throughout the summer break.
Andre Villas Boas successfully brought in Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen early on in the window before making big moves at the end of August.
Emmanuel Adebayor, Clint Dempsey, Hugo Lloris and Moussa Dembele all joined the club at the end of the transfer window to bolster the Spurs squad.
As always with the close of one transfer window, speculation about the next transfer window begins.
Here’s a look at some of the players AVB could make a move for in the new year.
Joao Moutinho
On the deadline day of the summer transfer window, it seemed all but certain that Joao Moutinho would join Tottenham from FC Porto.
Moutinho will surely be linked with the North London club again because of his connection to manager Andre Villas-Boas.
The one thing that may hold back this transfer from happening is the signature of Moussa Dembele and Clint Dempsey, who play a similar position to Moutinho in midfield.
Yann M’Vila
Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila could be the best player that Tottenham could go after in January.
M’Vila is not the best player available, but he is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.
Right now, the defensive midfield positions at Spurs are being held by Jake Livermore and Sandro.
Using an experienced player in front of the back-four like the French international M’Vila could be the missing piece to the Tottenham puzzle.
Falcao
Radamel Falcao will be the most coveted transfer target of the January transfer window.
All of the big players in Europe will be after the signature of the Colombian forward.
After scoring 36 total goals last season with Atletico Madrid, Falcao made a name for himself during the UEFA Super Cup, in which he easily scored a hat-trick against Chelsea.
Tottenham will be in the market for a goal scorer but Falcao may be out of their price range if the likes of Manchester City, PSG and Real Madrid get involved in this transfer saga.
Fernando Llorente
One position on the Tottenham depth chart that is still not chock full of players is forward.
Fernando Llorente could fill that void for Spurs.
Llorente has been a consistent goal scorer for Athletic Bilbao since the 2007-08 season, but last season was his real breakout season.
The Spaniard scored 29 total goals last season as he helped Bilbao make a run to the Europa League final.
Willian
One player whose name seems to be mentioned at least a few times during each transfer window nowadays is Willian.
Willian has been a part of the Shakhtar Donetsk team that has won three straight Ukrainian Premier League titles.
The Brazilian midfielder would fit right into the formation at Tottenham as he could play either right behind the strikers or on the wing.
Iker Muniain
If Spurs are not able to bring in Llorente, his Athletic Bilbao teammate Iker Muniain may be an option.
The 19-year-old Muniain also had a breakout season for the Spanish club in 2011-12 during their Europa League run.
However, Muniain is not a goal scorer like Llorente, he is more of a provider in midfield.
Just like Eriksen, Muniain would be a move for the future instead of someone who could step in and make an immediate impact in January.
Alan Dzagoev
Another young star of world football who should be making a move to a bigger club sometime soon is Alan Dzagoev.
Dzagoev impressed many people early on at Euro 2012 before Russia crashed and burned in the group stage.
Christian Eriksen
Christian Eriksen is one of the best young talents in the world right now and he still has not moved away from Ajax.
The 20-year-old is starting his fourth full season in Amsterdam and is now a regular in both the Ajax and Denmark starting lineups.
Signing Eriksen would be a move for the future for the Spurs.
If this deal were to happen, Spurs could use the same contacts at Ajax that they used to bring Jan Vertonghen over to White Hart Lane.
