Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison has named a Manchester United icon as his pick for the Premier League’s greatest ever player.

The Tottenham midfielder took part in TNT Sports’ 20 Questions segment, in which he was quizzed on a variety of topics relating to football and other sports.

And when it came to Maddison’s choice for the greatest Premier League player of all time, the Spurs ace opted for a Manchester United legend who’s right up there in the record books.

Tottenham’s James Maddison picks Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney

The player Maddison picked is Wayne Rooney, who had a stratospheric career at Manchester United and Everton, and also dazzled for England at international level.

Maddison was asked who he felt was the greatest Premier League football ever, and he replied: “We’re gonna go Wayne Rooney.”

There are many players that could be discussed as candidates for the greatest Premier League player of all time, including Tottenham icon Harry Kane.

However, Spurs fans will likely be happy enough with Maddison picking Rooney, as his stats speak for themselves.

Also, at least he didn’t pick anyone from Tottenham’s North London rivals.

Rooney’s Man United heroics

Rooney came to the fore at Everton in the early 2000s, bursting onto the scene with a superb long-range effort against Arsenal in October 2002 to give the Toffees a 2-1 win and end the Gunners’ 30-game unbeaten run.

He spent two seasons at Goodison Park before moving to Manchester United for £25.6 million in the 2004 summer transfer window, where he went on to win 16 trophies with the Red Devils.

Rooney won five Premier League titles, one Champions League, one FIFA Club World Cup, one Europa League, one FA Cup, three League Cups and four Community Shields.

He is one of only two English players, alongside teammate Michael Carrick, to win at least one of every trophy that a Premier League club could have won at the time.

Rooney scored 253 goals for Man United in all competitions, making him the club’s all-time top goalscorer.

His 183 Premier League goals for the Red Devils is the third-most scored by a player in that competition for any single club, behind only Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero.

In addition, Rooney’s 208 Premier League goals make him the competition’s third-highest scorer of all time, while he also holds the fourth-highest number of assists with 103.
