Tottenham’s gamble on Kane backfires as Martinez & Vlahovic show fans what they’re missing

Tottenham should have sold Kane.

After the North London derby, that much is becoming more and more obvious.

Harry Kane has been a fantastic asset for Tottenham, but he’s not bigger than the club.

When he wanted to leave over the summer, it was reported that Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici had a contingency plan for his exit.

That plan consisted of signing both Dusan Vlahovic and Lautaro Martinez with the funds raised by Kane (MEN).

Those deals failed to materialise and Tottenham are now suffering as a result of it.

Vlahovic and Martinez are both in fine goalscoring form in Serie A this season, whilst Kane continues to draw blanks.

Both of the linked strikers netted on the weekend.

Martinez scored his 4th league goal of the season in a 2-2 draw with Atalanta on Saturday.

Then, just hours before Arsenal vs Tottenham, Vlahovic scored from the penalty spot for his 4th of the season as Fiorentina beat Udinese 1-0.

The pair would have been everything that Tottenham are missing at the moment.

Two out and out goalscorers who patrol the box and pounce on mistakes.

Meanwhile, in Kane, Tottenham have a striker who enjoys dropping deep and trying to dictate.

Against Arsenal, though, Kane was at his very worst.

His numbers were simply dreadful.

Over 90 minutes he only made 5 accurate passes, missed 1 big chance and lost 6 out of his 8 duels (FotMob).

This was a performance in which Kane looked like he had mentally checked out from Spurs.

That’s a worrying sight.

It seems the Lilywhites made a real mistake in not allowing him to leave for Manchester City.

It would have been a painful split, yet if it yielded the signings of the Serie A pair it would have been worth it.

For now, at least, the fans will have to limp through to January and hope that some summer mistakes can be rectified then.
