Christian Eriksen’s talents were on full show in Tottenham’s FA Cup defeat to Chelsea, with the 25-year-old fashioning the killer passes, and recording the subsequent assists, for both of his side’s goals in a 4-2 defeat to the Premier League leaders. While failure to win means Eriksen will not be returning to Wembley later this month, he did achieve a hugely impressive feat on Saturday.
Thanks to his efforts against Antonio Conte’s side, the Denmark international became the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to register 20 assists in all competitions this campaign, having managed to create 12 in the league, six in the FA Cup and two in European competitions (one in the Champions League and one in the Europa League).
It perhaps comes as little surprise, then, that Eriksen has been linked with a move to European giants Barcelona. The Dane’s creative heroics this season have not gone unnoticed across the continent, with the Mirror reporting that the Catalans are preparing to lure him away from White Hart Lane this summer as they undergo a squad rebuild.
It is believed that Eriksen has been scouted consistently since the turn of the year and subsequently, Barcelona plan to use Michael Laudrup – a former Danish international and Camp Nou star – as a go-between to convince him that a move to La Liga would be in his interests. Nonetheless, whether or not Eriksen would be willing to quit Mauricio Pochettino’s impressive project at Tottenham remains to be seen.
