Tottenham’s Ben Davies reportedly set to return to action within the next two weeks

Tottenham defender Ben Davies is on course to make his return to action within two weeks, according to a report by the Daily Telegraph.

They report that he is expected back in the next fortnight, having been out with an ankle ligament injury since Jose Mourinho’s first game in charge, the 3-2 away win at West Ham.

The injuries are starting to pile up for Mourinho, so Davies’ return would help ease the burden and should shore up a backline which has kept just one clean sheet under the former Chelsea manager.

Mourinho has played Ryan Sessegnon and Jan Vertonghen at left back in the Welshman’s absence, with Danny Rose also on the injury list at present.

TBR’s View – Davies is more of a Mourinho defender than Rose or Sessegnon

Mourinho likes his full backs to be able to defend first and Davies, who has played at centre half at international level, fits the bill.

That also allows Serge Aurier to bomb on a bit more on the other side, with Davies tucking in and allowing the backline to shuffle across.

Sessegnon isn’t a Mourinho defender at all – he will likely return to the wing when Davies is back – while it remains to be seen what the Portugese does with Rose, given his flighty form and contract situation.
