In the summer Tottenham Hotspur were heavily linked with a move for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish.
As reported by Sky Sports, Tottenham failed with a £25 million bid for the midfielder in the summer. The player was expected to be sold due to Aston Villa’s financial problems. However, Tottenham stalled for too long and by the time a bid arrived, those issues had been sorted.

Grealish ended up signing a new deal at Villa Park. That deal reportedly contains a release clause, but at a much higher price than what Spurs were willing to pay in the summer. The Times suggests it is in the region of £45 million.
At the start of the season, it seemed Tottenham were not missing out. Grealish struggled to get going this term and Aston Villa suffered as a consequence.
However, as this tweet sums up, things have changed:
Grealish has been in fantastic form for Aston Villa recently. In particular, since Dean Smith took over, he has been performing brilliantly for the club. That has culminated in a play-off push from Villa, and a place in the Championship team of the month for November for their dribbling king.
Grealish is now looking like he would have been a brilliant addition at £25 million. If Tottenham want to reignite their interest in January or next summer, then they may have to pay £20 million more than that to get their man.
By which point, Aston Villa might be back in the Premier League and Grealish would seemingly come off the market.
This was a deal Tottenham should have put together.
