Tottenham Hotspur face Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday and the German side have released some positive injury news ahead of the game. Both Lucas Hernandez and Ivan Perisic are passed fit to play against Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
Perisic is, of course, a well-known name to English fans. He helped break the nation’s heart with Croatia at the 2018 World Cup.
Tottenham were also, reportedly, interested in his potential transfer this summer.
As reported by numerous sources, including TMW, Tottenham were willing to spend £23 million to bring some experience into their wide options. FC Inter News reported that Tottenham had been in contact with the Inter Milan player’s agent over a potential move.
It was always seen as something of an odd rumour despite his obvious ability. His age and price-tag looked very unlike a Tottenham transfer.
Whether Tottenham were interested or not, he ended up elsewhere. Perisic joined Bayern Munich on a season-long loan in August and will now prepare to show Tottenham just what he is capable of.
Spurs’ struggles this season might suggest that a player of Perisic’s experience might be needed in that dressing room at present, although in terms of finances, Spurs have probably made a better choice investing for the future with Ryan Sessegnon and Jack Clarke.
But if Perisic is key in a Bayern win on Wednesday, Tottenham might be left wondering what if?
