Tottenham won't catch Liverpool if they sell Toby Alderweireld
Tottenham Hotspur would risk falling short in the race for the Premier League if they sold Toby Alderweireld.
Spurs are in red-hot form after crushing wins over Bournemouth (5-0) and Everton (6-2) in the space of the past week.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have now won their last five Premier League games following the 4-2 defeat to Arsenal, and are looking hugely dangerous.
The shackles appear to have been thrown off by the team’s attackers, with Harry Kane and Heung-min Son both in fantastic form in particular.
Liverpool are currently top dogs but Spurs are well in it, but one January decision could ruin everything.
Spurs simply cannot lose Alderweireld
With Spurs’ attacking players dazzling, it’s important for the team to keep tight at the back.
Alderweireld is the man who keeps everything organised at the back – losing him in January would potentially mean that the contributions of the attack will ultimately count for nothing.
The Belgian international has been routinely linked with Manchester United over the last few months, with Barcelona also credited with interest (The Mirror).
That said, the Red Devils appear to be ready to move for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly now, meaning Spurs may only have to keep him out of the clutches of Barca.
If Spurs harbour genuine title hopes then they absolutely cannot lose Alderweireld.
He is undoubtedly one of Europe’s finest modern centre-backs and losing him will surely see Liverpool and Manchester City pull away.
Given Spurs’ impressive position in the table and great form, keeping Alderweireld has never been more crucial.
