Tottenham are looking to get busy during the January transfer window but according to Fabrizio Romano, one man they won’t be signing is Juventus and Netherlands defender, Matthijs De Ligt.

Reports in the last week had suggested that Spurs could make a move for De Ligt. The Dutchman has not quite hit the heights many expected since sealing a £67m move to the Turin club in the summer of 2019.
However, any faint hopes Tottenham, Conte, and Fabio Paratici might have had when it comes to De Ligt seem to have been extinguished already. According to transfer guru and journalist, Fabrizio Romano, De Ligt will be staying firmly put with Juventus for now.
Romano’s update would, seemingly, put an end to any hopes Spurs have. Of course, it was always going to be a difficult deal to do given the money Juve paid and the reputation De Ligt has.
Spurs did, of course, spend big money in the summer to bring in Cristian Romero from Serie A. The club are expected to back Antonio Conte in January.
TBR’s View: De Ligt Was Always A Long Shot For Tottenham
While it’s admirable of Tottenham to put their name in the hat for such players, it was always going to be hard getting a deal done for Matthijs De Ligt. He’s one of Europe’s best young defenders, and at the price Juve paid, they won’t be selling on the cheap either.
De Ligt is also on huge wages. £280k-a-week was the figure branded around last year. That would mean he’d instantly be the top earner at a club like Tottenham.
January, though, is set to be exciting for Tottenham fans. Names are being linked left, right, and centre. And with Paratici at the helm, they’ll probably end up with some new blood.
