Everton and West Ham are the two remaining Premier League clubs in the hunt for Andre Gomes, according to the Daily Mail.
They report that Tottenham have pulled out of the race to sign the Portuguese international, preferring to focus on targeting James Maddison from Leicester City instead.
That leaves West Ham as reportedly the only club who have actually bid already for Gomes, who the report says is now ‘destined’ to come to the Premier League this summer.
Gomes of course excelled out on loan at Everton last summer and the report makes it plain that it’s a straight fight between the Toffees and the Hammers for the silky playmaker.
The report says that the Hammers initially bid £18 million for Gomes, but Barcelona are holding out for £30 million as they look to fund an overhaul at the Nou Camp.
Everton likely hold the upper hand because the player knows the club but West Ham have made their intentions plain and already tabled a bid.
Playing in London can be a sway for some players and this one could be an intriguing transfer battle, especially now Tottenham look to have taken the prospect of performing in the Champions League off the table for Gomes.
