Tottenham winger Lamela should be fearful over Costa links

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing Juventus winger Douglas Costa in the summer.

Calciomercato claim Mauricio Pochettino is after improving his squad depth ahead of the 2019/2020 season, where they will hope to compete for the Premier League title and the Champions League.

Costa has found game time somewhat hard to come by this season under Max Allegri, having started just seven Serie A matches, with 10 more appearances off the bench.

He’s scored just one goal for the Old Lady, but Spurs seem keen to reignite their interest in the player, who was linked with a £30 million move to White Hart Lane back in 2017 (The Mirror).

Calciomercato suggest Christian Eriksen could be used as makeweight to land the South American.

One man who might be disappointed ove the links is Erik Lamela.

Lamela place would come under threat

Lamela started off the 2018/19 season in very good form.

He’s managed six goals and four assists across all competitions so far, but he has seen less game time of late due to a number of first-team players returning from their injuries.

He’s made just 11 starts in total and despite some early promise, he has failed to establish himself as a nailed on starter under Pochettino.

Spurs potentially signing Costa would certainly be bad news for the Argentine ace.

The Brazilian can play on the right wing and Dele Alli’s preferred position in behind the striker would leave him with little chance of starting games. There’s also Lucas Moura for competition.
