Tottenham will thank the stars for Hojbjerg with Sangare shining at PSV

Tottenham Hotspur fans are already loving Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The summer signing from Southampton has come in and done a superb job in midfield, and is arguably one of the signings of the season so far.

Costing around £15 million which was offset by Kyle Walker-Peters joining Southampton, the Dane has brought steel, energy and leadership to the engine room.

He is already a firm fans’ favourite, and it is clear to see how highly Jose Mourinho rates him.

Spurs have been missing a dominant enforcer-type midfielder since Mousa Dembele departed the club in January 2019 and although not as technically gifted, Hojbjerg is certainly a presence.

And the club will be relieved he’s started so well, because another of their summer targets – Ibrahim Sangare – has also made a fine start.

Spurs were supposedly very interested in the Ivorian (GFFN) back in August, but a move never materialised and he headed to PSV Eindhoven, where he has really impressed so far.

According to WhoScored – who rate him as PSV’s best player in 2020/21 so far – he’s 2.9 aerial duels per 90, 2.5 tackles, 3.6 interceptions and 1.8 clearances. He’s also had 84% passing accuracy.

TBR’s View – Spurs need not have regrets thanks to Hojbjerg

Sangare joined the Dutch giants for an absolute bargain fee of €9 million/£8 million (GFFN), and could easily have been a big oversight from Spurs.

But they decided to plump for Hojbjerg and that decision is looking inspired.

Perhaps the brilliant Sangare is one for Spurs to keep an eye on in the future, with Moussa Sissoko not getting any younger and Harry Winks’ future somewhat up in the air.
