Report: Tottenham and Everton now both want 'very talented' £17m top-flight player, out of contract in 2023
There looks like being a transfer scramble for Bologna midfielder, Mattias Svanberg, with Tottenham, Everton, and West Ham all battling it out.
The Swedish midfielder has been one of the stars of the show for Bologna this season. Along with Aaron Hickey – who is also wanted by English clubs this summer – Svanberg has shone for the Serie A outfit.
And now, Italian media outlet 1000 Cuori Rossoblu claims that Spurs, Everton and the Hammers are going to try and sign Svanberg this summer. The 23-year-old is into the final 12 months of his contract this summer, prompting discussions about a potential bargain deal.
It’s claimed that Bologna have already turned down bids of around £13m though, and that a fee closer to £17m is going to be required to land Svanberg. The 18-cap star has made 36 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and setting up three in both key stat areas.
Of course, the interest in Svanberg from this trio is nothing brand new. Indeed, all three were named as interested parties just last month. However, this continuation of interest and naming of an asking-price suggests there are serious legs to this rumour.
TBR’s View: Svanberg Ready For The Premier League, But With Who?
It certainly doesn’t seem like the Swede will be short of options this summer anyway. Svanberg has impressed over in Italy so interest from the Premier League was always going to come.
For Tottenham, they might want a bit more than a player who has done well with a mid-card Italian team. Conte wants really top quality players, and Svanberg isn’t the finished article yet.
However, Everton and West Ham might be smart moves. Both clubs can offer first-team football and in Everton’s case, if they do stay up, they need fresh faces in the building.
