Tottenham Hotspur are supposedly interested in signing Matias Vecino this summer.
Inter Live have reported that the Italian club are willing to take around £25 million for the player, who is a regular starter under Luciano Spalletti.
Inter Live reported on Tottenham’s supposed interest in Vecino back in January, claiming they saw him as a potential replacement for the departed Mousa Dembele.
Tottenham haven’t signed anyone for the last two transfer windows, but that trend will surely be bucked in the summer of 2019, and Vecino could well be an option for Spurs given his enticing valuation.
But there is another Inter midfielder who Tottenham should perhaps be looking at instead.
Brozovic a better option
Inter’s Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic would arguably be a better signing for Spurs.
The World Cup finalist is the standout player in the Nerazzurri’s engine room.
He can play a variety of roles, but seems to flourish at holding midfield where he can damage teams from deep with his passing range.
Brozovic, who has 40 goals and assists in 146 appearances (20 of each) for the club, is also a decent carrier of the ball, although he does not bulldoze his way through people like Dembele used to.
He has a superior pass completion rate to Vecino in Serie A (89% to 81%, via WhoScored), and makes more tackles, interceptions and clearances per 90 on average than his Uruguayan teammate.
While Vecino would be a decent value signing, a move for Brozovic would represent a greater show of ambition from Spurs, who need the adequate personnel to go with their fantastic new stadium.
