Tottenham want £40m ace who’s ‘one of the most underrated CBs in Europe’

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their sights on Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Sky Sports, the 23-year-old is a player that Spurs “really admire”, alongside Jarrad Branthwaite and Marc Guehi.

Tottenham really could do with bolstering their defensive ranks further in wake of the defensive crisis that has compromised their good early form.

Although Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are quality players, there’s a drop-off in quality in the absence of either player. This is something Ange Postecoglou should address.

Todibo is said to have a price tag of around £40million, and has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool in the past.

At 23, Todibo has his whole career ahead of him, and he has already done enough to show he belongs at the highest level.

As per Get Football News France, he ‘offers calmness, skill, a wide range of passing, physicality and efficient defending.’

The outlet also said back in 2018-19 that Todibo’s ‘graceful passing, a supreme ability to breeze past pressing forwards and a developing defensive acumen’.

Tottenham eyeing ‘the best centre-back’ Lothar Matthaus has seen ‘in a long time’

Two years later, Germany football legend Lothar Matthaus gave Todibo a huge compliment.

“Todibo is the best centre-back I’ve seen in a long time,” the 1990 Ballon D’Or winner told Sport after watching Todibo in action against Inter Milan in the Champions League.

“He would be a good reinforcement for Schalke and an enrichment for the Bundesliga. At 20 he is incredibly calm, he always finds interesting solutions.”

More recently (in January this year) Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout deemed Todibo “the complete package” and “one of the most underrated CBs in Europe at the moment”.

It’s not surprising to see Tottenham apparently after Todibo, as he’s such a top talent with a great future ahead of him, and looks set for that big career move.

Admittedly, it’s always hard to prise a top player away from a team in mid-season, but Spurs should certainly give it a go in the January transfer window.
