Report: Tottenham want to sign talented EFL prospect who's been watched by Newcastle and Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Accrington Stanley goalkeeper, Toby Savin, with The Sun reporting that Antonio Conte wants to bring the stopper in as a potential future number one.

Savin, 20, has cemented himself as the number one with Accrington this season. His performances have caught the eye, and The Sun claim Antonio Conte wants him at Spurs. Long-term, it’s believed Savin could replace Hugo Lloris in the sticks. The Frenchman, as we know, recently signed a new deal with the club.

The young goalkeeper is no stranger to those at Premier League level. Earlier in 2021, reports suggested Manchester United had watched Savin. Newcastle, too, are also thought to have cast their eye over the talented stopper.

The Miraculous Rise Of Union Saint-Gilloise

Tottenham signed Pierluigi Gollini in the summer but his place already looks under threat. The Italian played in the EFL Cup semi-final against Chelsea and was at fault for Antonio Rudiger’s headed opener. Indeed, there has been talk of Gollini returning to Italy before January ends.

Savin, then, could well be a smart option for Spurs. The youngster will need to hit the ground running and develop under Conte’s guidance. But having been a regular all this season, first-team football is unlikely to phase Savin.

TBR’s View: Gollini’s Time Up At Tottenham?

Well, if Tottenham are already looking at new goalkeepers, then you’d have to assume so. Gollini just doesn’t look like being the part, and could well be moved on.

In terms of Savin, of course there is a long way to go for him. He has talent and is a big prospect. But there is a big difference between playing in League One and for a Champions League contender.

However, it’s also a move Savin won’t be able to say no to. If Spurs come knocking, then he simply has to go. The only hope is that Accrington get good money.
