Tottenham vs Arsenal: What Antonio Conte said to his players in the dressing room at half-time

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has now shared with the club’s official website what he said to his players in the dressing room at half-time yesterday.

Spurs put in yet another lacklustre first-half display and failed to turn up for what is their biggest fixture of the season.

Hugo Lloris’ own-goal inside the opening 15 minutes set the tone as Arsenal went on to completely dominate the game.

Martin Odegaard doubled Arsenal’s advantage with a brilliant long-range effort, but the Norwegian was allowed far too much time and space to pick out the bottom corner.

Conte’s men only really threatened on one occasion during the opening 45 minutes as Heung-Min Son was denied by a brilliant save from Aaron Ramsdale.

Tottenham undoubtedly improved in the second-half, as they have done on many occasions this season, and Conte has now shared what he told his players at half-time.

What Conte said to Tottenham players at half-time

“With my players I said to stay in the game, don’t lose their mind, don’t lose their heads and to show that we wanted to fight until the end. No regrets,” Conte told Tottenham’s official website

“I think at the end of the game we can’t have regrets for what we did. For sure I’m disappointed, I’m sorry for our fans, because I know the importance of this game but I think that we are trying to overcome a difficult period.”

Tottenham have started games poorly far too frequently this season and while they improved during the second period yesterday, it’s ultimately what cost them the game.

Dejan Kulusevski, Ryan Sessegnon and Harry Kane all went close to getting Spurs back into the game but the trio were denied by Aaron Ramsdale.

TBR View: Slow starts a huge cause for concern at Tottenham

Conte’s men have proven countless times that they can get back into matches this season but their slow starts are a huge cause for concern.

The players shouldn’t need any extra motivation to come out of the blocks quickly, especially in a north London derby. While Spurs have mounted some impressive comebacks under Conte, he will need to address the issue as it could end up costing them by the end of the season.

There’s certainly a case to be made that it could come down to the Italian’s defensive approach, particularly in big games. But yesterday seemed like more of a mentality problem as Tottenham played within themselves after conceding the first goal.
