Tottenham vs Arsenal: Gary Neville slams Hugo Lloris after north London derby error
Gary Neville slammed Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris on Sky Sports for making a costly error against Arsenal today.
Spurs fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat against their bitter rivals today after a poor first-half showing.
Antonio Conte’s men got off to a nightmare start in the north London derby as Lloris’ blunder gave Arsenal the lead inside the first 15 minutes.
The Frenchman couldn’t manage to parry Bukayo Saka’s attempted cross away from goal and instead put the ball in the back of his own net.
Neville was certainly unimpressed with the Tottenham captain’s efforts and felt he looked shaky between the sticks.
Neville slams Lloris
“There’s a little deflection off [Ryan] Sessegnon but I still think they’ve got to do better at that near post,” Neville said while commentating on Sky Sports.
“Lloris, that’s just so poor. He started shakily with his feet, Lloris. He’s followed it now with his hands.
“Some may say there’s a deflection there that could potentially cause him more of a problem, but he has to deal with that. It’s not good enough.”
The situation for Tottenham only worsened as Martin Odegaard doubled Arsenal’s lead with 10 minutes left in the first-half.
The Norwegian playmaker had far too much space to unleash a powerful long-range shot into the bottom corner to beat Lloris.
Spurs have started games poorly far too often this season and Conte’s side were punished by an Arsenal side that are full of confidence right now.
Tottenham did improve in the second-half, as they have done on so many occasions over the course of the season, but their first-half display proved costly.
